Overview
This study explores the role of social media campaigns in supporting Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on women's empowerment, through an empirical and analytical investigation of campaigns addressing women's issues in Egypt and the Arab region. A descriptive-analytical method was applied, utilizing surveys, interviews, and content analysis of campaigns conducted on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Findings reveal that digital campaigns contributed significantly to raising awareness about gender equality, promoting women's rights, and stimulating public debate on sensitive issues such as domestic violence and harassment. Results also show that the most effective campaigns combined impactful visual messages with interactive content that encouraged women's direct participation. The study highlights that young people, particularly those aged 18 to 30, were the most engaged with these campaigns, with women showing greater responsiveness than men. Additionally, campaigns supported by NGOs and international organizations achieved wider reach and stronger impact compared to individual initiatives. However, the study also identified challenges, including the short-lived influence of some campaigns and the difficulty of translating online engagement into tangible policy changes or shifts in social behavior. The research concludes that social media campaigns are powerful tools for advancing women's empowerment but require more sustainable strategies and closer integration with governmental and legislative efforts to secure lasting outcomes.
