Overview
تعد محافظة البصرة أحدى المحافظات الغنية بالنفط لذا فأن التسرب الذي يحدث بسبب الصناعات النفطية ومن خلال عمليات التعامل مع المواد النفطية في المنشئات الصناعية أو عند شحن النفط من موانئ التصدير يعد من المصادر الرئيسة لتلويث البيئة بدرجة أو بأخرى، والتلوث بالنفط من البواخر والزوارق التي تجوب مياه شط العرب، إذ ينتج من محركاتها تسرب الزيوت ومن عوادمها نواتج وقود زيت الغاز، وقد قدرت أحدى الدراسات أن مجرى شط العرب ينقل سنويا إلى الخليج ما معدلة (527) طنا من الهيدروكربونات النفطية الذائبة و(460) طنا من الهيدروكربونات العالقة.
