للقوزاق دور رئيس في رسم الخطط داخل مجلس زيمسكي من أجل صعود ميخائيل رومانوف إلى العرش، وبعد تنفيذ خططهم ذهبوا إلى مساعدته للقضاء على خصومه في السلطة، إذ كان لهم تأثير كبير في قتال البولنديين وإخراجهم من موسكو، وبالتالي كانوا قادرين على الاقتراب من القيصر والحصول على العديد من الامتيازات مكنتهم من تعزيز موقعهم داحل روسيا القيصرية، مما دفعهم إلى تفعيل دورهم العسكري في الدفاع عن البلاد خلال الحروب التي خاضتها روسيا ضد بولندا.
