انكب المستشرقون على دراسة التراث العربي والإسلامي بشكل مثير للاهتمام؛ فالمستشرقون قاموا بجمع المخطوطات العربية والإسلامية وفهرستها وحققوا العديد منها بأعلى المقاييس العلمية المتعارف عليها ونشروها نشراً علميًا خالصا كما قاموا بترجمة الآلاف من هذا التراث إلى اللغات العالمية، فضلاً عن التوجيه إلى الأخذ بالمناهج الحديثة في البحث والدراسة وعرفوا الآخرين بالحضارة العربية وقدموا للفكر العالمي أشياء كثيرة نافعة لا يمكن تجاهلها، وسنشير من خلال هذا المقال إلى بعض النقاط المهمة.
