لقد اهتم صاحب المقال بمسألة العشق عند أحد أبرز أعلام الثقافة العربية قديما، فالجاحظ الذي يعتبر أول كاتب عربي تناول الحب بالتحليل وبين للمحبين محاسنه وسلبياته، قد حاول تفسير أسباب الحظوة التي تجدها القيان عند الرجال- بالاعتماد على نماذج حية- ويعرض وجهة نظره بخصوص الزواج، وقد عبر عن رفضه لارتداء الحجاب وسخر من نظرية جماعة الحشوية؛ بل إنه ذهب إلى أبعد من ذلك، فمدح القيان ليفسر ميله إلى الطبقة الاجتماعية التي أنتجتهن.
