Overview
Aim: The study aimed to explain the importance of visual function testing for driving license requirement. Material and Method: A longitudinal clinical based study was done at medical commission in Khartoum during the period from July 2014 to January 2015.The criteria included subjects who came to get and renewing license of driving vehicle. The age ranges from 18 to 60 years old. The collected data included examination which carried as follow, vision by snellen's test types (E symbols), refraction using streak retinscop (HEINE GERMANY EN 100), cover test done by ocular, visual field by conformation test, colour vision by colour vision test made easy > and stereopsis by Titimus test. The data collected also by questionnaire distributed among drivers taking their opinion about time and causes of accident. Results: A total number of 260 subjects were had visual function testing divided to two group A (18 - 50) B (51 - 60). The result revealed 56% of subject had normal vision, 44% had refractive error (17% are wearing glass and 27% were not wearing glass. 5.8% had defect in field, 1.5% had defection binocular vision and 1.5% had abnormal color vision.11.6% of drivers their vision not improved after wearing glasses the result showed 94% of subject had night glare complain, 67.3% of drivers showed that the time of accident at the night, 61.8% of drivers had been involved in road accident, 88% were due to human factors for accident. Conclusion: The measurement of visual acuity, field of view, colour vision and vision under glare condition are important for driving safety. The visual standards of driving license must be applying.
