Overview

The present study analyzes the US peace plan known as the 'deal of the century', focusing on the background, content and possible repercussions. Those in charge claim that it is aimed at a final solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. However, from the plan setters' and executors' perspective, the role and attitude of the Palestinians do not matter. Thus, a a fundamental question arises: How can such a party be ignored in any real settlement? Or is the proposal madatory even if the Palestinians do not accept it? Or does the plan open the door wide for a new stage of the conflict? If this party is not important, should it be considered an Arab, rather than a Palestinian, solution with the Israelis? Again, will it actually solve the conflict? The study adopts the descriptive-analytic methodology to dismantle the extreme sophistication which is imposed on the deal's background, dimensions, content, indications and impacts. In addition, the parties' stands and statements as well as the information published by research centers and media are utilized. All this assists in conducting a true investigation of the above questions. Finally, upon the findings of the analysis, it is concluded that the deal's objective is not to create a solution to the issue, but to employ the made-up settlement as a tool to re-shape the region, preparing the Palestinian-Israeli conflict for a new stage.
