Overview
The objective of this article is to critically review the health insurance scheme in order to unfold its uncertainties and provide the possible through Takaful (Islamic insurance) in Nigeria. The study used secondary data/desk review on the related literature. The study finds that health insurance is a special coverage that provides for the payments of benefits as a result of sickness or injury. The paper concludes that Cconventional insurance seems to be weighing risk and burden of uncertainty upon some parties, while Sharia considers any transaction as a humane. Therefore, the article made recommendations for adopting takaful as a better alternative to conventional health insurance scheme in Nigeria, such as: all Shariah complying States in the northern Nigeria and those state governments that have significant percentage of Muslim population across the country should implement takaful in the medical and health sector with a view to enable Muslims benefit from it as a \"halal\" health insurance scheme; well coordinated body for managing the Takaful in different aspects our life.
