The Moroccan Working Woman between Achievements and Challenges

Overview

This study examines the status of Moroccan working women by highlighting the achievements in legislation and public policies alongside the persistent challenges that hinder their full integration into the labor market. The author explains that legal reforms since the early 2000s, notably the Family Code and Labor Code, have enhanced women's economic and social rights and improved their access to education and employment. However, the practical reality reveals a gap between laws and implementation, as women continue to face challenges such as wage discrimination, limited protection from harassment, restricted access to leadership positions, and insufficient measures to reconcile professional and family responsibilities. The paper also analyzes the impact of economic and social transformations, noting that globalization and the shift toward a market economy have opened new opportunities while simultaneously increasing the vulnerability of certain groups, particularly women in the informal sector. Public policies and empowerment programs are assessed as significant yet limited in impact due to poor coordination and weak monitoring. The study concludes that empowering Moroccan working women requires structural reforms in education and training, stricter enforcement of professional equality, and expanded social support networks to ensure their effective and sustainable contribution to national development.
