El artículo presenta en clave contextual histórica al Trabajo Social de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Describe los ciclos espaciales, temporales e hitos históricos de la arquitectura y gestión institucional de la actual Especialidad de Trabajo Social, antes Facultad de Trabajo Social, así como sus características formativas a través de las líneas de trabajo que se vienen configurando, desde 1956. Presenta una síntesis de los contextos sociales, políticos y económicos nacionales influyentes en los enfoques del Trabajo Social orientado a la protección social. Expone desafíos y proyecciones del Trabajo Social a nivel local, nacional y regional. This article presents a historical context for Social Work at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, describing the spatial and temporal cycles and historical milestones of the institutional and management architecture of the current Social Work Specialization, formerly the Faculty of Social Work, as well as the training characteristics across the lines of work that have been developed from 1956 to the present. A summary of the social, political, and economic contexts the country has experienced in relation to Social Work approaches within the framework of social protection is presented. The final section shares some challenges and prospects for Social Work at the university, national, and regional levels. Este artigo apresenta o Serviço Social na Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Peru em um contexto histórico. Descreve os ciclos espaciais e temporais e os marcos históricos da arquitetura institucional e de gestão da atual Especialidade de Serviço Social, antiga Faculdade de Serviço Social, bem como as características da formação através das linhas de trabalho que se desenvolveram desde 1956 até o presente. É apresentado um resumo dos contextos sociais, políticos e econômicos vivenciados pelo país, em relação às abordagens do trabalho social no âmbito da proteção social. A seção final compartilha alguns desafios e projeções para o Serviço Social nos níveis universitário, nacional e regional.
