Overview

At the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the following, the royal sites underwent important changes in terms of their consideration, management and economic vision, motivated by the fiscal situation. The need to find new economic resources brought to light two concepts regarding the future of the royal patrimony. On the one hand, their sale and disposal as a solution to the debt problem, which would undoubtedly also fit in with the ideal of the Cadiz liberals, who saw them as anachronistic elements. On the other hand, to make profound changes in the way these unique spaces were managed and administered in order to rationalise their operation and increase the income and profits they generated in order to maintain the Crown. A finales del siglo XVIII y comienzos de la siguiente centuria los sitios reales conocieron importantes cambios en cuanto a su consideración, su gestión y su visión económica, motivados por la situación fiscal. La necesidad de encontrar nuevos recursos económicos puso de manifiesto dos concepciones en cuanto al futuro del real patrimonio. Por un lado, su enajenación y venta como solución al problema de la deuda, lo que sin duda encajaría también con el ideal de los liberales gaditanos, que los verían como elementos anacrónicos. Por otro lado, realizar profundos cambios en cuanto a la manera de gestionar y administrar estos espacios singulares para racionalizar su funcionamiento y aumentar los ingresos y beneficios que allí se daban para, de este modo, mantener la Corona.
