Overview
El Mercurio Histórico y Político-Mercurio de España (1738-1830) se consagró como un periódico oficial en 1756. Desde entonces sus contenidos adquirieron un componente ideológico. En este trabajo arrojamos luz sobre cómo se politizaron las enfermedades junto a otras noticias para conformar un discurso dominante que, entre 1756-1799, distinguió a los Estados mediterráneos occidentales y orientales. El hilo conductor es la peste, interrelacionado con las creencias otomanas, la inestabilidad política, las coyunturas económicas, la conflictividad social y la guerra; en frente del progreso económico, el control sanitario, la filantropía y el orden cristiano.
