Overview
A bstract We discuss QED radiative corrections to contact operators coupling two heavy fields and one light field. These operators appear ubiquitously in weak interactions with nuclei such as beta decay and neutrino nucleus scattering. New eikonal identities are derived in the static limit (i.e., neglecting nuclear recoil) that allow for manifest power counting of enhancements proportional to the charge of the nucleus. We apply these new identities to nuclear beta decays and find that the “independent particle model” used by Jaus, Rasche, Sirlin & Zucchini is closely related, though not identical, to a model independent effective field theorcalculation.
