Overview
在过去的半个世纪，细胞生物学和分子生物学是通过细胞培养和胞外分析来研究基因和蛋白等细胞成分的。而绿色荧光蛋白作为报告基因出现后，人类将研究的基因或蛋白与绿色荧光蛋白连接，通过观测荧光变化直接动态观察细胞生物学和分子生物学的变化。荧光蛋白转染至肿瘤细胞系中，如肺癌、膀胱癌，并不改变肿瘤细胞侵袭和转移的特性。
