Zwischen Routinebetrieb, Erbgesundheitspolitik und NS-Krankenmord

Overview

Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht die Geschichte der Prosektur der Deutschen Forschungsanstalt für Psychiatrie in München seit ihrer Gründung 1926 bis in die 1960er- Jahre. Der Schwerpunkt der Darstellung liegt dabei gleichwohl auf den nationalsozialistischen Jahren. Ursprünglich mit dem Ziel der „Materialbeschaffung“ und der Verbindung von pathologischer Praxis mit Hirnforschung gegründet, kam es im „Dritten Reich“ zu einer engen Verzahnung der Prosektur mit der nationalsozialistischen Bevölkerungs- und Erbgesundheitspolitik. Zudem kann aufgezeigt werden, dass das von Willibald Scholz geleitete Hirnpathologische Institut der Deutschen Forschungsanstalt, dem die Prosektur unterstand, in die NS-„Euthanasie“ involviert war. Die Verantwortlichen profitierten nicht nur in Bezug auf die Beschaffung wissenschaftlich interessanter Hirnpräparate von den nationalsozialistischen Krankenmorden, sie sorgten darüber hinaus durch ihre neuropathologischen Untersuchungen für eine Rationalisierung des Selektionsprozesses. Obgleich die vorübergehende Schließung der Prosektur 1949 unmittelbar mit Debatten über die NS-„Euthanasie“ verknüpft war, zeigt dieser Artikel, dass am Hirnpathologischen Institut der Deutschen Forschungsanstalt auch nach 1945 weiterhin Präparate aus der NS-Zeit wissenschaftlich ausgewertet wurden. Die Forschung an Opfern des Nationalsozialismus war sowohl vor als auch nach 1945 in den Routinebetrieb integriert worden. This article examines the history of the dissecting lab (Prosektur) of the German Research Institute of Psychiatry in Munich from its foundation in 1926 until the 1960 s. Nevertheless, the presentation focuses on the National Socialist years. Originally founded with the aim of „obtaining material“ and linking pathological practice with brain research, the Prosektur became closely intertwined with National Socialist population and hereditary health policies during the „Third Reich“. In addition, it can be shown that the Institute of Brain Pathology (Hirnforschungsinstitut) of the German Research Institute, headed by Willibald Scholz, to which the Prosektur was subordinate, was involved in Nazi „euthanasia“: The people in charge not only profited from the National Socialist murders of the sick in terms of obtaining scientifically interesting brain specimens, they also ensured that their neuropathological examinations optimized the selection process of patients to be killed. Although in 1949, the temporary closure of the Prosektur was directly linked to debates about Nazi „euthanasia“, this article shows that research on specimens from the Nazi era continued at the Hirnforschungsinstitut of the German Research Institute after 1945. Hence, research on victims of National Socialism had become part of standard operations.
