Overview
Soviet authorities are slowly but gradually opening towards Western ideas and at first only in outlying parts of Communist bloc the composers there could now write a little less circumspectly but difference of cultures persisted, the composers in Eastern Europe were unable or unwilling to abandon traditional kinds of musical communication. Composition since 1975 has seen no startling innovation and many composers have ably and imaginatively continued with the language of modernism and there is no stable axis for development and the clocks measure only the labyrinth's steady expansion.
