Overview
Hodson's Horse gained its first battle honours during the Indian Mutiny for assisting the capture of Delhi, and later Lucknow. By 1867 the second regiment of Hodson's Horse, now named 10th Bengal Cavalry, was part of the Expeditionary Force, under Sir Robert Napier, sent to Abyssinia to punish King Theodore for the wrongful arrest of the British Consul and other British subjects. Ten years later, due to political tensions between Russia and Turkey, a force of troops that included both regiments of Hodson's Horse, now 9th and 10th Bengal Lancers, was sent to Malta.
