Much of the energy devoted to ‘resolving’ the structure–agency ‘dispute’ derives from particular readings of sociology’s founding fathers: Durkheim, Marx and Weber. The contemporary dominance of theorists such as Bourdieu, Giddens and Habermas, however, did not emerge seamlessly.
