Overview
Novel proteins can arise through processes like duplication, fusion, and fission. Recently, de novo proteins originating from previously non-coding DNA, lacking homology, have been discovered in numerous genomes. Consequently, their structure and function remain largely unknown. In this review, we illustrate how chaperones can facilitate the expression of de novo proteins, making them more accessible for subsequent experimental characterization.
