هذا البحث يناقش قضية إحالة العهد في لام التعريف، واختلافها عند النحويين والبلاغيين، فقد كان فريق منهم يرى العهد خاصا بالتعيين الخارجي، وفريق يرى أنه قسمان: عهد للتعيين الخارجي، وعهد للتعيين الذهني، وتبعا لاختلاف المفاهيم اختلفت أقسام لام التعريف، ثم يعرج البحث بعد ذلك على قضية مهمة لم يلتفت إليها إلا في عبارات مقتضبة وتمثيلات عابرة، وهي الاسم المحلى باللام بين الذات والصفة، إذ دخول اللام على ذات وحدها أو صفة وحدها يختلف عن دخولها في صفة يصحبها موصوفها، وقد حاول البحث جاهدا أن يبسط طرق الولوج إلى هذه القضايا، مستعينا بالمنهج الوصفي والتمثيلات اليسيرة.
