في سنة 1698 م أرسل السلطان إسماعيل، سفارة بقيادة عبد الله بن عائشة إلى لويس الرابع عشر ملك فرنسا، لإبرام معاهدة سلم وتحالف وتجارة بين الطرفين، وبالخصوص من أجل التوصل لحل مشكلة القرصنة والأسرى العالقة بين المغرب وفرنسا.
