لقد تطرق البحث إلى العلاقات الأمريكية البلغارية 1945-1950، فقد سعي ممثلو الولايات المتحدة إلى ضمان المصالح الأمريكية في بلغاريا من خلال تأمين الاتفاقيات الدولية، لا سيما الإعلان بشأن تحرير أوروبا عام 1945، ومعاهدة السلام مع بلغاريا عام 1947 من أجل ضمان تنفيذ المبادئ الديمقراطية والليبرالية في المجالين الاقتصادي والداخلي. لكن احتكار القيادة للنفوذ السوفيتي وقوة الشيوعيين في بلغاريا من منتصف عام 1947 إلى 1950 أدي إلى تكثيف المواجهة بين صوفيا وواشنطن، وتخفيض الوجود والفرص الأمريكية في بلغاريا، التي أصبحت ضمن النفوذ السوفيتي.
