يعكس السلوك الترفيهي إلى حد كبير طابع القيم السلوكية والاجتماعية السائدة في المجتمع، ولذلك فإن دراسته يمكن أن تشكل مدخلاً من المداخل الرئيسية في دراسة المجتمع، ذلك أن سلوك الأفراد في وقت الفراغ يمكن من إدراك المحاور الأساسية لتطوير مؤسسات التنشئة الاجتماعية ومعالجة مشاكله. ولهذه المسألة أهمية خاصة عندما يتعلق الأمر بشريحة اجتماعية تربي الأجيال وتؤدي دوراً هاماً في الحياة الاجتماعية وفي بناء المجتمع وهي فئة المدرسين.
