Overview
Preparing students for the labour market are one the main purposes of higher education institutions worldwide. However, in the age of globalisation, is seems that higher education institutions face some challenges to respond to the demands of labour market and prepare students to be able to compete in both local and global market. In Saudi Arabia there has been reform and develop of higher education system in order to achieve economic prosperity and become a global competitor. This study aimed to explore the role of higher education in Saudi Arabia, in preparing students for the labour market in the age of globalisation, through the perspectives of academic staff and postgraduate students at the College of Education at Qassim University in Saudi Arabia. The study adopted the interpretive paradigm. A case study of Qassim University was undertaken, and interviews (n=15) was conducted for data collection. The study revealed that instance, serving the labour market seems to have become the essence of higher education goals. However, the findings revealed that the role of universities in Saudi Arabia, in preparing students for labour, seems to be weak which need to be reviewed and reformed.
