شهدت الأعوام القليلة الماضية اهتمامًا متزايدًا بدور روسيا المتنامي في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا، وظهرت على نحو متزايد مقالات تحمل عناوين مثل: \"عودة روسيا إلى الشرق الأوسط\"، \"روسيا تشق طريقها في شمال أفريقيا\"، \"روسيا هي الحكم الجديد في الشرق الأوسط\". ويشير مثل هذه العناوين إلى أن النفوذ الروسي في الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا يتزايد، وربما الأهم، أن روسيا صارت القوة الجديدة صاحبة النفوذ في المنطقة، في مقابل تراجع الالتزامات الأمريكية فيها.
