Overview
ان استقلال الكويت عام 1961 ما هو إلا ثمرة العلاقة التي اقامتها الكويت مع بريطانيا، وتم ذلك بعد الغاء معاهدة الحماية البريطانية على الكويت والتي تم عقدها بين الطرفين عام 1899 وانتهى العمل بها عام 1961، والعراق لم يكن راضيا على تصرف بريطانيا باقتطاع جزء من أرضها والتي كانت قضاء تابع للواء البصرة، واستعانت الكويت بالدول والمواقف العربية، إذ جاء موقف الجمهورية العربية المتحدة والسعودية معارضا لتصرف العراق باعتبار الكويت جزء من أرضه، ومؤيدا صارخا لاستقلال الكويت، وتابعت الجمهورية العربية المتحدة والسعودية الاستقلال الكويتي حتى في جامعة الدول العربية والأمم المتحدة.
