Overview
يتسم اضطراب الاكتئاب بالإزمان والانتكاسة، ويؤثر على معظم الأداء الوظيفي الاعتيادي للأفراد المصابين به، ويعيق علاقاتهم ويزيد معاناتهم إلى الحد الذي قد يصل إلى الانتحار ووضع حد للحياة. وعلى الرغم من تزايد المعرفة الإمبريقية في مجال فهم وعلاج هذا الاضطراب بشكل لم يسبق له مثيل، إلا أن الدراسات الوبائية تنبؤنا كل يوم بمعلومات صادمة حول مسار وانتشار هذا الاضطراب، حيث يتوقع أنه بحلول (2020) سوف يصبح الاكتئاب ثاني مرض بعد السكتة القلبية في التكلفة التي يتحملها المجتمع .(Lecrubier, 2001) ويأتي هذا المقال ليرسم لنا معالم هذا الاضطراب، وتطور معايير تشخيصه، ويناقش جملة التغيرات التي طرأت على تصنيفه في الطبعة الخامسة من (DSM-V) والتي أثارت جدلا عميقا في الأوساط العلمية.
