Overview
الأب في المجتمع النوبي هو صاحب السلطة المطلقة على أولاده، أما الأم فكان دورها ثانويا داخل الأسرة، ولم تتغير الفكرة السائدة عند النوبيين، وبي أن الله خلق المرأة للمتعة ليس إلا، فالمرأة كانت عندهم خادمة في أي مكان تذهب إليه، وبالتالي لم تمارس أي تأثير في الأسرة. وتمسكت الأسرة النوبية بالعادات والتقاليد الموروثة في الزواج والطلاق والوضع والختان، على الرغم من وجود بعض العادات الإسلامية في بلاد النوبة، ويظهر هذا التمسك بشكل كبير في علوه، أما في مقرة فكانت الأقرب إلى قبول العادات الإسلامية، وإن ظل جوهرها مسيحيا حتى منتصف القرن الرابع عشر الميلادي
