كثيرا ما نجد أثناء قراءتنا أو نقاشاتنا تداول لمفهومي الثقافة أو الحضارة ضمن نفس السياق مما قد يوحي لنا أنهما يحملان نفس الدلالات والمعاني ويستمر هذا التقارب في التداول اليومي للمفهومين عبر مختلف المجالس والمواقف، ومن هذا المنطلق نحاول توضيح التقاطعات الموجودة بين كل من الثقافة والحضارة ونعمل على تحديد مضامينهما بتتبع مختلف المراحل التاريخية لتكوينهما إلى غاية الصقل الإيديولوجي الذي يحملانه.
