بسم الله، والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله، وعلى آله وصحبه ومن والاه، وبعد ، فقد نتج عن التطور التاريخي في الفكر الإسلامي ظهور مصنفات في فترة مبكرة سطر فيها مؤلفوها ما يتعلق بالتعريف بالخلفاء، ومن هؤلاء المصنفين: أبو بكر بن أبي الدنيا ( ت 281ه ) في كتابه تاريخ الخلفاء ، فأحببت أن أدرس نصوص هذا الكتاب دراسة وصفية من خلال النصوص التي ذكرها ابن عساكر في تاريخ مديمة دمشق ، والخطيب البغدادي في تاريخ بغداد، وغيرهما ، وقد رتبته على النهج التالي: أولا: التعريف با بن أبي الدنيا . ثانيا : التعريف بكتابه \" تاريخ الخلفاء .
