يتوجه هذا البحث إلى تتبع الأسس التي انطلقت منها النظرية النقدية منذ الحضارة الهيلينية حتى العصر الحديث على أساس نظرة تؤمن بأن النقد كما العلم، عمل إنساني وجهد تراكمي لا يمكن رده إلى فكرة الذوق فقط وإنما هو معرفة علمية شديدة التعقيد تقوم على أسس من الفكر والفلسفة والأيديولوجيا والفن والثقافة في تحليل العمل الأدبي وضبط اتجاهاته.
