كتاب الصحاح من المعاجم اللغوية المهمة في العربية، ومرجع متميز، والوصول إليه سهل، والثقة به عالية. والبحث أراد أن يبين مدى دقة صاحب الكتاب في التوثيق، واعتماده على مصادر لغوية قوية. وتم تصنيف البحث إلى المراجع والمصادر التي اعتمدها في كتابه. ويذكر البحث أمثلة متعددة من كل مصدر، وكذا نوع المصدر المستخدم وسبب الاعتماد على هذا المصدر. وتم تصنيف المصدر الواحد إلى عدد متنوع من أسباب الاستعمال. وذلك للوصول إلى رأي علمي يبين أمرا مهما في الكتاب وهو مدى الأمانة العلمية في الكتاب.
