تناول البحث نصوص ومضامين ما صنفه عبد اللطيف البغدادي عن نفسه في سيرته الذاتية التي نقلها لنا ابن أبي أصيبعة في كتاب عيون الأنباء في طبقات الأطباء، مركزا عن المرحلة البغدادية في حياته، إذ كان قد ولد ونشأ في بغداد قبل أن يرحل إلى بلاد الشام ومصر، والمتابع لسيرته يجد أنها ليست سيرة مهنية كطبيب، بقدر ما هي سيرة عالم يتحدث عن تلقي الطلب وعن انطباعاته تجاه شيوخه الذين لم يسلم بعضهم من انتقاده ونرجسيته، في نفس الوقت ناقش البحث العوامل الذاتية والخارجية التي دفعته لتدوين سيرته والرغبة في عرض تفاصيل تجاربه الشخصية.
