Overview
Al-Azraq depression is the largest tectonic depression on the Southern Jordan Plateau. The basin was formed by a sequence of tectonic and faulting events. The most important types of Landform that distinguish in Al-Azraq depression is the phenomenon of playa basins as formed by the tectonic and faulting events, in addition the key role of the topographical characteristics in the formation of these playa basins. The main target of this paper is to monitor the spatial distribution of playa basins. Playa basins were extracted from a topographic map1:50000 scale by digitized all kinds of playa basins on screen, then Optimized Hot Spot methods analysis were used to monitor the playa basins clustered. In addition to multiple linear regression was applied to check the impact of physical factors on the patterns of the spatial distribution and concentration of playa basins. The results indicates that: (1).There are approximately 1336 dry playa basins with a total areaof521.6km²,_which forms 39.7% from the total area of Al-Azraq depression_ with significant variation in its areas from a small area about 312m² to the largest one 91.668 km².(2).Playa basins clustered distributions in three main zones with an area forms less than 11% from the study area although the playa basins are geographically distributed over 62% from the total area of Al-Azraq depression. (3). The results of the linear regression indicated that the spatial distribution and clustered distribution of playa basins are very much related to elevation and slope among four factors tested at significant level 0.05; It is found that 59% of the high clustered is belonging to elevation ranges from 519-806m and slope ranges between 0º-13º.
