استهدف البحث الحالي التعرف على واقع التعليم الجامعي المصري، وكذلك التعرف على الجامعة الريادية من حيث مفهومها وأهدافها وأهميتها، بالإضافة إلى التعرف على الظروف المجتمعية المختلفة التي أدت إلى ضرورة الأخذ بصيغة الجامعة الريادية. واستخدم البحث الحالي المنهج الوصفي لدراسة المشكلة، وتوصل في نتائجه إلى أن الجامعة الريادية أداة للتغيير الاجتماعي والاقتصادي، وتؤدى دوراً مركزياً في نظام الابتكار، والتنمية الاقتصادية، والاقتصاد القائم على المعرفة، والقدرة التنافسية، ومن ثم فهي مفتاح لإنتاج المعرفة والقوى العاملة من أجل تلبية احتياجات المجتمع.
