Overview
يهدف هذا البحث إلى تناول شواهد من النقوش العربية الشمالية (الصفائية)، والشعر العربي حتى بداية ظهور الإسلام بخصوص طلب المطر من الآلهة، فعرب شمالي الجزيرة العربية من الأجداد الأوائل لعرب الجاهلية. إن إله المطر الرئيس للقبائل العربية الشمالية بعل سمين الذي رمز إليه بالثور، ويخبرنا الشعر أن اللات آلهة المطر الرئيسة عند عرب الجاهلية، ولكن ارتبط ذكر الثور الوحشي في القصيدة الجاهلية بالمطر، ولعل ذلك من مخلفات عبادة الثور الذي يرمز للخصب والمطر. طلب الصفائيون المطر من بعل سمين ورضو والإله، بينما طلب الجاهليون المطر من الإله واللات.
