إن القارئ المتمعن في أدب الصعاليك عامة، يجد أن الظروف القاهرة التي كانوا يعانونها شكلت منعطفاً خطيراً في حياتهم؛ فقد عانوا النبذ والتشرد، وفقدوا الأمن السياسي والاجتماعي والاقتصادي، فعاشوا اغتراباً ضاغطاً، انعكس عليهم بشكل أو بآخر، مما أدى إلى تأزم نفسي، ظهر بشكل جلي في أحاسيس مشتتة، ومشاعر حائرة، وقلق دائم، وخوف باد في ثنايا أشعارهم؛ في أساليبهم التعبيرية والفنية. وهذا ظهر جلياً -وبشكل لافت -في شعر عبيد بن أيوب العنبري، الذي تحول الخوف عنده إلى ظاهرة مرضية مخيفة، فأردنا أن نتبين أثر هذه الظاهرة في إخصاب خياله، وإثراء تجربته الشعرية.
