يتحدث هذا البحث عن صيغ التعجب القياسية في شعر المتنبي، ودلالتها المتحققة في التركيب الشعري، فيتطرق، بداية، إلى مفهوم التعجب لغةً واصطلاحاً مع ذكر آراء النحاة الأوائل والمتقدمين في هذه الظاهرة، بالإضافة إلى إيراد أبرز صيغها وأحكامها الموجودة في كتبهم. ثم يتناول هذا البحث كيفية استعمال المتنبي صيغ التعجب القياسية في شعره، عن طريق إيراده لها في سياق قصائده ذات الأغراض الكثيرة والمتنوعة، وخروج هذا التعجب إلى دلالات متعددة تعرف من خلال السياق.
