نتحدث ضمن إطار هذا البحث عن مصادر الصراع الدولي ومضامينه، وهل اختلفت تلك المصادر في مرحلة ما قبل الحرب الباردة عن ما بعدها؟ وكيف كانت طبيعة التباين والاختلاف بين المرحلتين؟، إن البحث في مصادر الصراع الدولي بين مرحلتين يعد أمرا بالغ الأهمية كونه يساهم في بيان وتوضيح التحول الذي شهدته الصراعات الدولية في مرحلة ما بعد الحرب الباردة، إلا أن هناك بعض المختصين في حقل العلاقات الدولية لهم رأي مختلف، إذ يرون أن مصادر الصراعات ظلت واحدة على الرغم من حالة الانتقال بين المرحلتين.
