كان موضوع الإنسان هو النقطة المركزية في كل القضايا التي شغلت اهتمام الفيلسوف جون جاك روسو، منددا بكل حضارة أو أساليب حضارية أو تربية أو قانون يتنافى مع ماهية الإنسان، ويسلبه أصالة طبعه، لقد أعطى مفهوما جديدا للطفولة والإنسان، لذلك كان علينا أن نقرأ روسو اليوم ليثير فينا من خلال هذا الموضوع نفس التساؤلات التي أثارها في عصر الأنوار، وأن نفكر من جديد في مفهوم الطفولة والإنسان.
