تهدف الدراسة لتتبع نشأة وتطور قطاع الطاقة الكهربائية في السودان من خلال رؤية تحليلية لهذا القطاع المهم والحيوي، تنبع أهمية الدراسة من كونها تعمل على تسليط الضوء على واحد من المقطاعات المهمة والاستراتيجية في السودان، استخدمت الدراسة المنهج التاريخي الوصفي التحليلي بغية الوصول إلى نتائج والتي منها: قطاع الطاقة الكهربائية في السودان من أقدم القطاعات المهمة والاستراتيجية في السودان، قطاع الطقاقة مر بعدد من المراحل في السودان، وشهد قدر من التطور والنماء، قطاع الطاقة في السودان يحتاج للمزيد من الجهد لتغطية مناطق السودان المختلفة، وذلك لأن الطاقة والحصول عليها مشروع ويجب على الدولة توفيره.
