تبحث منظمة حقوق الإنسان عن طرق مناهضة انتهاك حقوق الإنسان في الولايات المتحدة وأوروبا، مع ملاحظة الرابطة بين تعالى اليمين المتشدد وتصاعد حدة التمييز العنصري، والعنف الذي تتم ممارسته على المجتمعات المهمشة، إلا أن الجهود الواضحة التي يبذلها المدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان لم تستطع أن توقف هذا المد. تعد الدراسات في علم النفس وعلم الأعصاب، والتشدد في الغرب كنموذج لفهم سبب تصاعد جرائم الكراهية والأحاديث المروجة لها. يستطيع علم النفس والأعصاب الكشف عن دوافع هذا السلوك، ويمثل خطوة حساسة نحو وجود تدخلات فعالة وضرورية للحد من العنف والقسوة.
