Overview
All soil-burrowing animals have geometrical structures or rough structures on their body surfaces. The geometric structure units, of soil-burrowing animals' body surfaces, can demonstrate different mechanical properties. As a result, both the adhesive and frictional force between the animal body surface and soil are reduced. Based on the principles of surfaces of soil-burrowing animals on anti-adhesion and anti-friction against soil, geometrically structured surfaces methods were designed to reduce soil adhesion and friction between soil cutting implements and soil. The study aim to review some experiments for design of soil cutting implements surfaces learning from geometrical structures of soil burrowing animals. The methodology depends on review of past published researches. Results showed design of soil cutting tools learning from nature found to have a considerable effect on improving implement performance. Based on the surfaces of soil-burrowing animals, geometrically structured designed surfaces of soil cutting implement can reduce soil adhesion and friction between soil cutting implements and soil. The study recommends to apply reviewed techniques in Sudan.
