هدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة مسألة: \"تفضية الزمن (la spatialisation du temps) أي التعبير عن الزمن بألفاظ الفضاء، ويحاول هذا البحث اعتماد النموذج الذي اقترحه كلود فاندلواز لوصف الفضاء في اللغة، وتطبيقه على الزمن، وبعبارة أخرى، فهذا البحث هو تطوير وتوسيع لنموذج فاندلواز، وهذا هو الجديد فيه. فاندلواز لم يدرس الزمن في اللغة الطبيعية، ولم يدرس علاقة الزمن بالفضاء، ولا أثر الاستعارة التصورية في هذه العلاقة، وهذا هو موضوع البحث الأساسي، وإشكاليته المركزية.
