يهدف البحث إلى تسليط الضوء على الحلف الإسلامي الذي دعا إليه العاهل السعودي فيصل بن عبد العزيز عام ١٩٦٦ يضم الدول الإسلامية، وهو الأمر الذي عدته الحكومة السورية امتدادا لحلف بغداد (١٩٥٥-١٩٥٩) الذي كانت تنظر إليه بوصفه أداة للاستعمار، فأسهم ذلك الموقف في توتر العلاقات السعودية -السورية في وقت كانت الساحة الداخلية السورية تشهد صراعا على السلطة بين أقطاب حزب البعث العربي الاشتراكي الذي كان يسيطر على السلطة.
