تزخر مدينة شرشال بتراث تاريخي وأثري هام، جمع سلسلة من الفترات التاريخية القديمة والإسلامية، هذا ما يؤكد تعاقب حضارات عريقة، تركت لنا آثارا كأدلة مادية بقيت شاهدة على أصالتها، ومحتفظة بالعديد من معالمها الأثرية المختلفة. يتناول هذا المقال تاريخ مدينة شرشال منذ ما قبل التاريخ إلى الفترة المعاصرة، حيث يهدف إلى إبراز الدور الذي لعبته بين مدن حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط، وكذا مساهمتها في تطور حضارة شمال إفريقيا وبلاد المغرب الإسلامي الوسيط والحديث.
