Overview
يمثل جابر بن حيان منعطفا جذريا في تاريخ علم الكيمياء، وفي الآن نفسه منعطفا جذريا في تاريخ الحضارة الإسلامية من حيث أنه يعد في طليعة فئة العلماء الذين كرسوا حياتهم للاهتمام بالبحث في الطبيعة (الكيمياء)، بحيث اعتنى بالكيمياء العضوية على وجه الخصوص بعد أن اقتصرت المعرفة في هذا العلم عند اليونان على الفرضيات والتحليلات الفكرية والرؤيا النفسية، واستخدام الخوارق والسحر، وعمل على استبعادها من البحث العلمي، فهو الذي وضع الأسس العلمية للكيمياء الحديثة والمعاصرة، وشهد له بذلك كثير من علماء الغرب. فكانت إسهامات العلمية هي أساس تطور الكيمياء في أوروبا.
