يرصد هذا البحث الأخطار البحرية بنوعيها الطبيعية والبشرية التي تعرض لها البحر الأحمر إبان عصر الدولة المملوكية (648-923ه/ 1250-1517م)، وتناول البحث موقع البحر الأحمر وأهميته جغرافيا، ثم الأخطار البحرية الطبيعية كهبوب الرياح، والعواصف، والأمطار الغزيرة، والشعب المرجانية، والدوامات. ثم الأخطار البشرية كالقرصنة من بعض الأشراف، ومن العربان، والأسطول البرتغالي، وحرب الموانئ - التجوير - بين الدولتين المملوكية والرسولية، وهو ما عرض السفن والبحارة والملاحة في البحر الأحمر إلى خسائر مادية ومعنوية، وخسائر في الأرواح والممتلكات. وأخيرا تطرق للإجراءات الوقائية التي اتخذتها الدولة المملوكية لتفادي هذه الأخطار، وحماية البحر الأحمر.
