تناولت في هذا البحث التعريف بالإمام السيوطي من حيث مولده واسمه ولقبه وكنيته ونشأته وأهم تلاميذه، وشيوخه الذين أثروا فيه وكان لهم الأثر البالغ في تكوين شخصيته الأدبية والعلمية، وأهم مصنفاته وصفاته الأدبية ورحلاته في طلب العلم ومؤلفاته التي تدل على سعة علمه وفهمه، كما ذكرت جزءا من ثناء العلماء عليه، ثم وفاته رحمه الله، ثم تناولت الحديث عن كتابه الجامع الصغير من حيث سبب تسميته، ثم بيان مكانة الكتاب وترتيبه وعدد أحاديثه ورموزه التي استخدمها فيه، ثم ذكرت بعضا ممن اعتنى بهذا الكتاب من العلماء والمحدثين، ثم ذكرت المصادر والمراجع.
