التساهل في التحمل والأداء من الأمور التي تؤثر تأثيرا قويا على رواية الراوي من حيث القبول والرد، وأحد العلل التي تقدح في ضبطه، وتؤدي إلى رد روايته. قال الحافظ ابن الصلاح: لا تقبل رواية من عرف بالتساهل في سماع الحديث أو إسماعه، كمن لا يبالي بالنوم في مجلس السماع، وكمن يحدث لا من أصل مقابل صحيح، ومن هذا القبيل من عرف بقبول التلقين في الحديث. ولا تقبل رواية من كثرت الشواذ والمناكير في حديثه. جاء عن شعبة أنه قال: \"لا يجيئك الحديث الشاذ إلا من الرجل الشاذ\". ولا تقبل رواية من عرف بكثرة السهو في رواياته إذا لم يحدث من أصل صحيح. وكل هذا يخرم الثقة بالراوي وبضبطه.
